Our Curriculum at Banana Moon

Here at Banana Moon Day Nursery, we offer a play-based day with hidden learning!

We provide well-planned experiences, indoors and outdoors, based on each individual child’s interests. Our staff team will support all children to learn with enjoyment and challenge, having a balance of child-initiated and adult-led play-based activities.

We use the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as a starting point for our own educational programme. The Early Years Foundation Stage is a statutory framework that is fully embedded in all aspects of nursery life.

Our educational programme allows children to experience quality learning and development opportunities, from the day a child starts until the day we say goodbye. The Banana Moon Educational Programme includes allocated time for children to partake in physical movement sessions, science and exploration opportunities, mathematical and literacy daily challenges and cooking with the on-site chef…plus many more!

Banana Moon Day Nursery provides all children with a firm foundation on which to build future academic, social and emotional success.

Our four guiding principles

Unique
Child

Every child is a unique child who is constantly learning and can be resilient, capable, confident and self-assured;

Positive
Relationships

Children learn to be strong and independent through positive relationships;

Enabling
Environments

Children learn and develop well in enabling environments, in which their experiences respond to their individual needs and there is a strong partnership between practitioners and parents and/or carers;

Learning
Development

Children develop and learn in different ways and at different rates. The framework covers the education and care of all children in early years provision, including children with special educational needs and disabilities.
At Banana Moon Day Nursery, our routines, activities and nursery environments are designed to enhance these four principles, offering children opportunities to play and practise their growing skills, ensuring that every child has an opportunity to learn and develop at a pace that is suitable to them.

We observe, assess and plan your children in each of these areas, allowing us to provide a variety of learning experiences that are not only of interest to them, but also building on what they already know!

Practitioners will observe your child on a regular basis to identify and assess the progress they are making, regardless of your child’s age or their attendance pattern at nursery. Observations help practitioners to decide where the children are in their learning and development and to plan what to do next.

Observations and photographs of your child will be placed in their own online Learning Journey. Practitioners will use the Banana Moon platform to capture your child’s learning, which will then be shared with you via the Banana Moon Parent App. We encourage parents and other family members to contribute to their child’s learning by using the Banana Moon Parent App to share photos and observations with their child’s Key Person – perhaps from a recent day out, activity at home or even while you are on holiday – we would love to see what your child gets up to outside of nursery!
